    Next, you need to decide how you will wrap your sponge cake. The most important thing to ensure is that it’s tightly wrapped, so the sponge doesn’t suffer from freezer burn. You can use either plastic wrap or tin foil, whichever you have at hand. 
  4. Place in a Bag
    Once your cake is tightly wrapped, place it in a suitably sized freezer-safe bag. If your cake is multi-layered, you can freeze more than one piece of sponge in the same bag. 
  5. Label and Freeze
    Write today’s date as well as the use-by date on the freezer-safe bag before sealing it and placing it in the freezer. Remember, you can freeze sponge cake for around three months.

Flash-Freeze Smaller Cakes
If you’re planning to freeze smaller sponge cakes like muffins or cupcakes, consider freezing them on a tray initially before placing them in a freezer-safe bag once they have frozen solid. This will save you space in the freezer and will also reduce the amount of plastic wrap you need to use.
