How to Freeze Crescent Rolls

Crescent Rolls

Crescent Rolls are super buttery, flaky and can be so soft, which makes them the perfect accompaniment for many different dishes. Making them from scratch can be time-consuming but really enjoyable!

If you have had the time to make a large batch of crescent rolls and now have some left over, rather than making fresh ones each time, you can freeze the remaining rolls and use them again.

Here’s how you can freeze them:

  1. Make Rolls
Make your crescent rolls according to your favourite recipe or by using pre-bought dough that can often be found in a tube.
  2. Allow to Cool
You must allow the crescent rolls to cool completely before you put them into the freezer.
  3. Line a Tray
Grab a large baking tray and line it with greaseproof paper or baking paper. This will make it easier to remove the crescent rolls once they have frozen.
  4. Lay Out the Rolls
Evenly spread the crescent rolls out on the baking tray, making sure that they are not touching each other.
  5. Flash Freeze
Slide the tray into the freezer and flash freeze the crescent rolls for several hours.
  6. Bag Up
Once the crescent rolls are frozen, transfer them into ziplock bags and label them with the contents.
  7. Freeze
Finally, place the bags back into the freezer and store them for up to 2 months.
Can You Freeze Crescent Rolls in the Tube?

Yes, you should be able to place a tube of crescent roll dough directly into the freezer. It’s a good idea to check the back of the packet to confirm this.

Can You Freeze Crescent Dough?

Yes, you can freeze crescent roll dough. If you’re freezing unbaked dough, it’s best to flash-freeze individual portions to prevent sticking. Once frozen, store in an airtight container or freezer bag.

How Long Can You Freeze Crescent Rolls?

Crescent Rolls can be stored for between a few weeks and a couple of months in the freezer.

This is longer than they would last in the fridge or in a bread bin, so if you do need to preserve the rolls for longer, freezing is the way to go.

How Long Do Cresecent Rolls Last in the Fridge?

After baking, Pillsbury crescent rolls remain fresh for a few hours at room temperature. If stored in the fridge, they can last up to a week. For unbaked, semi-done rolls, they can be refrigerated for up to two days before needing to be baked or frozen.

How Do You Defrost Crescent Rolls?

The best part of crescent rolls is the warm, buttery, flaky pastry; you can still achieve this if you defrost them.

To thaw and reheat the crescent rolls, remove however many you would like and gently reheat them in the oven on a low heat for 10-15 minutes.

There is no need to let them thaw before they go in the oven as, even on a low heat, it will thaw them thoroughly and reheat them evenly.

Can You Refreeze Crescent Rolls?

It is not advised to refreeze crescent rolls as they will most likely lose their flaky pastry which is part of its signature look and texture.

It would not be unsafe to refreeze them, but be cautious of any changes that may occur!

Do Crescent Rolls Freeze Well?

Fresh will always be best, but if you freeze the crescent rolls correctly and reheat them gently, then they will be just as good.

Making any kind of pastry can be somewhat time-consuming, so freezing leftovers will reduce the need to make fresh batches every time you want some crescent rolls. They do not keep for too long, so be sure to eat them sooner rather than later!

Other Pillsbury Products are Freezable

Most Pillsbury products can be frozen, whether it’s cinnamon rolls, biscuits or pizza dough. They tend to freeze better when baked versus as dough.
